Carnitine transfers long chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for energy production. L-carnitine is used to aid in fat burning, increasing energy and endurance. In dieting it may also help alleviate feelings of hunger. More recently Acetyl Carnitine has been used as a cognitive enhancer and to help combat depression in the elderly.
