INGREDIENT INFORMATION
Glucosamine Sulfate 228 mg
Glucosamine is different than NSAIDs or COX 2 drugs.
Glucosamine works in a much different way than NSAIDs or
COX-2 drugs because it is natural. Glucosamine builds
and maintains cartilage, tendons and other connective
tissues in the body by acting as a building block for
these materials and inhibiting enzymes that destroy
cartilage. When the body does not have an adequate
supply of glucosamine, arthritis – most commonly
osteoarthritis – can develop. This debilitating
condition that afflicts millions of people worldwide is
characterized by a breakdown in the “shock absorbers” of
the joints, particularly weight bearing ones such as the
hip or knee. Glucosamine works by preventing the
cartilage destruction, joint pain, swelling and loss of
flexibility in a natural way and without the harmful
side effects that are associated with NSAIDs or COX-2
drugs. Glucosamine cannot cure your arthritis, but it
will do wonders for your arthritis and joint pain.
Because glucosamine works from within, bathing your
joints in a proverbial warm and protective solution and
working to heal your joints instead of merely cover up
pain, results take a little bit longer than NSAIDs or
COX-2 drugs. Once you have achieved relief, however,
glucosamine works to protect your joints from further
damage while continuing to stave off further damage.
Contrasted to glucosamine, there is evidence that many
of the NSAIDs can actually work against your arthritic
joints, to cause your arthritis pain to become even
worse by breaking down your joints.
MSM 133 mg
Q: What is MSM? Where does it come from? What does it
do?
A: MSM is a source of organic sulfur derived from
nature. MSM has many benefits but is mostly used for
pain relief and reduction of inflammation associated
with arthritis and a variety of other ailments.
Q: Can I take MSM while taking my prescribed drugs?
A: Although you should always consult your physician
before starting any new dietary regimen, MSM has not
been shown to interact with any prescribed medications.
Often, MSM supplementation is used in conjunction with
medical treatment. MSM is an excellent food supplement
in support of medical treatment.
Q: How does MSM help relieve pain?
A: Use of MSM has been shown to reduce the rigidity of
cells in soft tissues of the body. By reducing this
rigidity, fluids are able to pass more freely from the
cell and this helps reduce cell pressure, thereby
reducing inflammation and pain.
Q: Will taking MSM increase my energy levels?
A: Although there is no guarantee of increased energy
levels, many individuals claim increased levels of
energy. This occurs mainly because of the increased cell
flexibility and permeability. MSM allows better use of
oxygen and nutrients by the cells and more efficient
removal of waste products.
ALFALFA 66.5 mg
Alfalfa contains an enormous quantity of nutrients, in a
form that is easily digested and assimilated by man. It
is up to 50% protein, contains a good quantity of
beta-carotene, chlorophyll and octacosanol. Herbalists
have used alfalfa for many different purposes. Most of
those applications bear a one-to-one correspondence to
the various nutrients in the plant. The one word that
keeps appearing is "tonic". The plant is a kidney tonic,
prostatic tonic, reproductive tonic, musculoskeletal
tonic, glandular tonic and so forth. Alfalfa has
traditionally been one of the best herbal treatments for
arthritis, gout, and rheumatism. Clinical research
suggests that at least one or two persons in ten will
respond very well to the use of alfalfa, experiencing an
almost total reduction in painful symptoms. Alfalfa has
a proven cholesterol-lowering effect. Steroidal
anti-inflammatory action is suggested by its content of
plant steroids, and by some research that found an
estrogenic effect on ruminants (grazing animals).
Alfalfa has also been shown to possess antibacterial
action against gram-negative bacteria (such as
Salmonella typhi), and it contains at least one protein
with known anti-tumor activity."
GINGER ROOT 23.75 mg
Relief of muscle and/or joint pain. Many components of
Ginger are, like aspirin and Motrin, potent inhibitors
of inflammatory substances (e.g., Prostaglandins).
Ginger is also thought to inhibit "Substance P," a pain
mediator that is known to be elevated in FMS. This is
the same substance that Capsaicin (hot pepper) creams
work through. For Substance P inhibition, dried Ginger
seems to be most effective. In a study of 10 patients
with muscle pains and 46 patients with arthritis
(Rheumatoid and regular "wear and tear" osteoarthritis),
100% of muscle pain and 75% of arthritis patients noted
relief.
White Willow Bark 23.75 mg
The active ingredient in white willow is salicin, which
the body converts into salicylic acid. The first aspirin
(acetylsalicylic acid) was made from a different salicin-containing
herb--meadowsweet--but works in essentially the same
way. All aspirin is now chemically synthesized. It's not
surprising, then, that white willow bark is often called
"herbal aspirin."
The salicylic acid in white willow bark lowers the
body's levels of prostaglandins, hormone like compounds
that can cause aches, pain, and inflammation. While
white willow bark takes longer to begin acting than
aspirin, its effect may last longer. And, unlike
aspirin, it doesn't cause stomach bleeding or other
known adverse effects.
Specifically, white willow bark may help to:
Relieve acute and chronic pain, including headache, back
and neck pain, muscle aches, and menstrual cramps. The
effectiveness of white willow bark for easing these and
other types of discomforts results from its power to
lower prostaglandin levels.
Control arthritis discomforts. Some arthritis sufferers
taking white willow bark have experienced reduced
swelling and inflammation, and eventually increased
mobility, in the back, knees, hips, and other joints.
